SDG 13 climate Change

What is SDG 13 about?

SDG 13 addresses one of the most significant threats to humanity in the contemporary world: climate change, as the past 10 years have been the warmest on record, and the Global sea level has risen over 10 cm (around 4 inches) since 1993, with the rate of rise doubling to about 4.5 mm/year. So, it calls upon nations, communities, and individuals to take immediate action to curb greenhouse gas emissions, enhance resilience to climate-related catastrophes, and promote awareness about the necessity of sustainable lifestyles.
Climate change is already impacting all parts of the world—with more severe weather, hotter temperatures, rising sea levels, melting glaciers, droughts, floods, and wildfires. All these transformations damage ecosystems, jeopardize food and water supplies, and make life more difficult for millions—particularly the most vulnerable.

Why is it important to learn about climate change?

It is already occurring and is real: Students are growing up in a world where climate change is a current reality rather than a far-off future. It relates to daily life: Our everyday activities have an impact on the environment, from transportation and food choices to energy use at home. It gives pupils more power, young people who have a better understanding of climate change are better able to lead climate-friendly projects in their communities, advocate for improved policies, and make informed decisions. It fosters global responsibility, climate change transcends national boundaries. So, on a global level, learning about it promotes empathy, critical thinking, and teamwork.
